Tubal Reversal Success Rates

Because we do only tubal reversals and Essure removals we keep close track of the almost 3000 patients that it has been our privilege to serve.

Everyone considering a tubal reversal wants to know what their chances of having a baby will be and that should be part of the decision making. Everyone is different and the numbers below reflect average of large numbers of our patients. Your chances may be better or not as good depending on your fertility or lack of it. If, on your mother’s side, you have twins or you are a twin that is good. If you got pregnant on the pill or the shot, that is very good. If it was easy for you to get pregnant before you had your tubes were tied you probably have better than average chances to get pregnant with reversal. Nothing is a guarantee but these things are helpful. It’s also important how old you are and the type of tubal ligation you had.

There are 3 sections below. The first is all patients broken up by age. All types of tubal ligation are lumped together. As you can see, it’s better to be younger. The second group considers just tubal ligation type. As you can see some types of tubal ligation are more common. The Pomeroy and Parkland (“ligation and resection”) are the most frequent and if you had your tubes tied right after delivery or during a c-section that is almost certainly your type of ligation. The third section combines age and tubal ligation type.

If you compare these results with other reported by other facilities please remember that we do not include ectopic (tubular) pregnancies in our pregnancy totals as most other facilities do. In the first place it’s deceptive because no ectopic ever results in a live baby and our ectopic rate is only 2.25% not 10% to 30% that most other people have.

Finally these are absolute totals. We do not eliminate people who are not trying to conceive, had the reversal for religious reasons. We heard from a patient for the first time in 6 years that just had a baby. She was responding to a birthday card we sent to all our patients. If we lose track of a patient, we consider them as not having gotten pregnant.

I have recently started having a normal period, light for what my usual was, but what I concider a normal flow of 2-3 days. I had my tubes tied by cautery in 97 and ablation about 5 years ago due to heavy periods. I do have some spotting almost every month light for a few days. I know exactly when I ovulate. I just turned 40 but am very healthy. I had two children before ligation and had no problems conceiving. Will I be a candidate.:)

Since my tubal ligation I am in a new relationship, and we would like to become parents together. I am wondering if you would consider doing a reversal on me too make this dream come true for us?
